I find specifically western and religious holidays ritualistic and pretentious. They have lost their original meaning and are used by Americans to get presents, candy and drunk. In addition, I find non-pretentious regional holidays have also lost their purpose those meant to celebrate an event or person, are now used for an excuse to party, and not at all as the memorial that they were created for.
